Professional Development: Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA)
The National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth Training Materials
Introduction
Welcome to the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth (NCWD/Youth) Professional Development area. This section of the website has information about the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) Initiative and all of the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth’s training resources. In this section, you can: learn about the 10 KSA Competency Areas, discover practical professional development strategies, and connect to new training resources, including KSA-specific materials. The KSA Initiative was developed to improve the awareness, knowledge, and skills of youth service professionals, those individuals who work directly with youth. In addition, the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth has developed training materials in key areas, such as assessment, universal design, and youth development and leadership. The KSA Initiative and the training materials on this site are part of the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth’s ongoing efforts to connect all youth, including youth with disabilities, to better workforce development opportunities.
This site is a work in progress and it will be updated regularly. We would like to hear how you are using the KSAs as part of your professional development efforts. Also, if you know of any additional resources that should be included in the KSA Study Guide, please let us know.

Heldrich Center, the YDPA Program, the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP), and others. The second column contains the additional competencies for youth service professionals working with youth with disabilities. These competencies are a combination of those suggested by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE), the Center for Mental Health Services, the Association for Persons in Supported Employment (APSE), and others. | |
