AYPF Releases Blog Post Regarding ESSA, Accountability, and Youth in Juvenile Justice Facilities

December 18, 2017 Resources

On December 5, 2017, the American Youth Policy Forum (AYPF) posted a blog titled “ESSA and the Dirty A-Word“. Written by Policy Associate Jenna Tomasello, the blog discusses the challenges juvenile justice facilities face when it comes to education, ESSA, and accountability. In her blog, Tomasello refers to a policy brief that AYPF has teamed up with the Council of State Governments’ Justice Center (CSG Justice Center) to create. The forthcoming brief, titled Leveraging the Every Student Succeeds Act to Improve Outcomes for Youth in Juvenile Justice Facilities, aims to support states in using accountability requirements to improve outcomes for youth in juvenile justice facilities. Tomasello highlights three key objectives of the brief, including emphasizing priorities states should focus on regarding accountability for education in juvenile justice facilities, offering key questions to help states reflect, and presenting promising state practices.
