On March 21, the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) and the American Youth Policy Forum (AYPF) presented Santos Amaya Guevara with the Samuel Halperin Youth Public Service Award. The award recognizes youth in the District of Columbia who demonstrate the spirit of and commitment to public service and who have faced and overcome barriers and challenges to success. Essays by Guevara and two runner-up applicants, Harrison Rodriguez and I-Ra Abubaker, are available online along with a video interview with Guevara.
